What is Auto Number Helper?+
Auto Number Helper is a native Salesforce AppExchange app that assigns automatic sequential numbers to records based on Picklist Values or Record Types. Each Picklist Value or Record Type can have its own unique prefix and independent counter. The app generates the required Apex Trigger and Test Class code for you, making it possible to deploy without any Apex expertise.
How does numbering by Picklist Value work?+
You select the Salesforce object, the Auto Number field, and the Picklist field you want to use as the reference. You then configure a prefix and starting counter for each Picklist Value. When a record is created with a given Picklist Value, the app automatically assigns the next number in that value's sequence.
Does it work with Record Types?+
Yes. Auto Number Helper fully supports numbering by Record Type. You configure a separate prefix and counter for each Record Type in your org. When a record is created with a specific Record Type, it automatically receives the next number in that Record Type's series.
Do I need to write Apex code?+
No custom Apex expertise is required on your end. The app auto-generates the Apex Trigger and Trigger Test Class code for you. You simply copy and paste the generated code into your Sandbox, run the tests, and deploy to Production. Satrang's support team is also available to help with test class modifications if your object has required fields that need to be included.
Can I edit prefixes or reset counters after setup?+
Yes. The app includes an edit screen where you can update any prefix or modify any counter at any time. Changes take effect immediately for new records without requiring any code redeployment. This makes it easy to migrate from an existing numbering series by setting the starting count to match your last used number.

Auto Number Helper works with any standard or custom Salesforce object. Common use cases include Leads, Cases, Opportunities, Accounts, Contacts, Work Orders, and custom objects. As long as the object has an Auto Number field and a Picklist or Record Type field, the app can configure it.
